Incorporating Yoga Practice into Daily Life

In 2022, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training. I felt fully engrossed in the program- practicing, reading and learning about yoga. I even practiced and taught during my first pregnancy.

However, once my first baby arrived, my partner and I were completely engrossed in taking care of her. I found it impossible to predict for blocks of time where I could even practice a 20 min flow. I seemed to be practicing only a fraction of what I had before having our baby.

Maybe you have had similar life changes that alter your ability to prioritize a consistent practice. My advice is likely not revolutionary, but it has been my approach: prioritize what you value, be present for the practice, and find ways to carry out the yogic principles in the small tasks.

My practice doesn’t look like it used to. 60 min classes in a yoga studio seem like a distant memory. It often looks like 20 min once a week and a yoga podcast episode. But for both those practices, I commit to staying present for them. Importantly, I prioritize some asana practice over no asana practice.
